[DYSPHAGIA] CPR/Heimlich maneuver

  • Subject: [DYSPHAGIA] CPR/Heimlich maneuver

Your child with the PMV has a patent airway because of the trach tube. If
something becomes lodged in her larynx and she cannot exhale, just remove
the PMV. If the trach tube becomes occluded, you might be in more
trouble--she should carry a spare. For CPR, I would imagine that you'd be
best off using an ambu bag for the rescue breathing unless folks are
uncomfortable with it. --Terese
