Dear Headliners:

This is to notify you that the draft document, "Knowledge and Skills
Needed by Speech-Language Pathologists With Respect to Reading and
Writing in Children and Adolescents is now available for peer review.
The document was developed by the American Speech-Language Association
Ad Hoc Committee on Reading and Written Language Disorders. Nickola
Nelson is chair of the committee and members are Hugh Catts, Nancy
Creaghead, Barbara Ehren, Cheryl Scott, Froma Roth, Maureen Staskowski,
and Roseanne Clausen (ex officio). Alex Johnson is the monitoring Vice
President. This document outlines the responsibilities, skills, and
knowledge necessary for speech-language pathologists in the area of
literacy.

Please go to the ASHA Web site,
http://professional.asha.org/pr_ks_reading_writing.cfm to download the
document and complete the peer review. Your peer review must be
submitted on or before December 29, 2001 for the committee to make any
necessary revisions to the document prior to its consideration for
adoption. If you would like to receive a hard copy of the document and
peer review form, please contact the Action Center at 800-498-2071.

Please forward this information on to other individuals and
organizations who may wish to participate in the peer review.
Additional messages appear on the ASHA web site and will be posted to
other ASHA electronic lists.

On behalf of all the members of the ad hoc committee, we look forward to
your comments!
