To do it accurately and get the most for your pt, one must be trained
and certified and actually use it in return demonstration in front of
certifed LSVT trainers so one can replicate results from the original
technique
The idea is if someone uses it incorrectly and the patient and family
are disappointed because it was not effective, then not only does it
jepordize the insurance coverage
of the real technique as well as lessens the probability that the pt
and family will
pursue the true application by a certified provider Also, the
training shows who is and who is not a candidate
Like all voice therapy--they involve an ENT as well
I did see a brief summary of how to do it in a book for SLP's but
nowhere in the book did it mention that one must be certifed and
trained to use it correctly---so I can easily see how many would try
it and be disappointed in the results having less than 2 paragraphs to
go on ..
Those who went to the workshop, received research articles on results
Another thought
Many CVA patients are also heart pts
When I worked in a major cardiac hospital, we also got cardiac
approval before we did
TVF approximation exercises on their patients --since some had
precautions against constipation, lifting or anything that would
approximate a valsalva like moment
