[Dysphagia] Blue Dye Test - Trach patients

We know some people can be allergic to Barium do we stop doing MBS? In
medical history inspite of the screening there are still reports of
death secondry to reaction... Every case must be treated with the best
intentions ... We should learn from the rpts publised and use the
information appropriately. It is not commonsense that if some one dies
in a particular procedure which can save millions of life should be
banned just because of that incident..does that happen in medical system
..no thus it is one of the ground rule in our protocol.. not to use BDT
in pt with any inflammatory condition ..medical consent is essential and
there are only 2 deaths one adult and one pead as far as my knowledge
goes and they have thought us what we did not know before.

The other big issue was the case reports of deaths associated with the
(over)use of blue dye in certain critically ill patients.
For this reason, many hospitals stopped allowing it altogether
For example...

When our facility used to do it, we had challenges with obtaining the
dye from our pharmacy due to sterilization requirements, etc. We
eventually stopped performing the blue dye test due to chance of
infection to some pts.

Just wanting some comments on anyone's experiences with doing the Blue
Dye test with Trach patients and/or feeding patients on a ventilator.
Thanks!
