[Dysphagia] Oral prep/ or lack there of

If I recall correctly research did not support a difference when meds were coordinated with meals, although it seems logical.  Sounds like he needs purees and liquids.  Sometimes I find that patients will trigger a swallow faster with a straw-back to suck swallow Hilda Pressman

This is a tough one. Is he already on Sinemet or some type of Parkinson's
medication? I would assume at this point that he would already be. If he is,
it's always good to coordinate the meals with the meds. Probably about a
half hour or so after the medication has been given. Additionally, the
flavor changes is also a good idea; possibly even altering the temperature
as well. With Parkinson's as we all know it is progressive and you get to
the point to when management is about all you can do. Have they (the
family) explored alternate methods of feeding, nonoral that is?
