[Dysphagia] Change of taste etc.
Thanks to everyone who responded to my inquiry re: reduced taste after CVA.
My patient is only on 2 medications: Pravachol and Lisinopril. From what I found online, it doesn't look like either one would be expected to alter or reduce taste.
I don't have any medical hx on him other than "CVA" in terms of specific lesion...he's severely aphasic and has oral/verbal and limb apraxia as well. No dysarthria or oral weakness.
I have passed along the suggestions that I have received so far...if anyone has any further ideas, please let me know!
Thanks,
Sandi

It is not only the obvious antipsychotics, typical and atypical, that affect the ability to swallow, but the "hidden" ones such as metoclopramide (Reglan) and other psychotropic meds - that also may change taste perception.
