[Dysphagia] alternative thickeners

I just recently tasted "Simply Thick" at a conference her in Canada; "
The thickening gel you can't taste". Mixes easily without lumps and no
taste. Ingredients include: Water, Xanthan Gum, Citric Acid, Sodium
Benzoate, Potassium Sorbate. No research that I am familiar with, just
an alternate choice.

I am looking for any information on alternatives to thickeners (ie.
cornstarch) to use for patients which may be allergic to standard
thickening
products. Does anyone know of any good research articles or have any
experience with alternative thickeners? Any information would help.

Thank you,
