I am a speech pathologist who regularily performs modified barium swallow studies. Recently, I lost a baby at 8 weeks gestation due to no fetal heart tones(this being my 5th pregnancy, the first in which this happened.) Since this was an unexpected pregnancy, I had done 2 modifieds in 1 day prior to realizing that I was pregnant. Has anyone seen the data regarding the safety of doing modifieds in the first few weeks of pregnancy, before realizing that you are pregnant. Do any speech pathologists do the modifieds while pregnant with special shielding (outside of the normal lead ?)
