Hello all-
I couldn't find the email address for our MSHA list serve, so I am
looking for help within these groups.
About 9 months ago, I posted about me son, who was born premature ( 33
weeks) and was on a ventilator for two weeks, and on the NICU for a
total of a month, prior to being discharged. I got very little guidance
from the NICU nurses about any feeding/swallowing issues at the hospital
where he was born, and after pursuing a ENT eval, having a scintigram
and being started on Reglan, he is doing much better.
Without revealing too much identifying info about the physician, the ENT
I saw has turned out to be pretty condescending and dismissive about my
remaining concerns. I think my son's nasal breathing is still really
noisy( ENT has refused to scope him) and he still does best on a slow
flow nipple (he turned 1 two weeks ago) although he is doing well with
finger foods of a variety of textures. Developmentally , he seems on
track. He is furniture walking, doing lots of babbling, getting into
everything.
My husband is switching employers and will have a new insurance
carrier, and I am going to pursue a second opinion. I am willing to pay
some money out of pocket if needed, is someone has any really strong
recommendations, I can travel easily to Ann Arbor (U-M or St. Joe's A2)
or Toledo even.
You can email me off list if you prefer.
An aside, I contacted the hospital where my son was born to ask if they
provide swallowing eval services in the NICU, and they do not.
Marcia
