Researchers and authors are required to disclose any financial relationships to their work because it is a given that monetary involvement almost guarantees bias - knowingly or not. The results of research funded by interested parties is, automatically, suspect.

We had a thread a while back about research & whether the authors have
any investment in the studies or products.
The latest issue of Newsweek had a short article about JAMA discovering
that four articles in the past year had principal researchers with
financial ties to the medication or prodedures studied .

I'm new to the listserv, I am a graduate student at Kean University studying Speech-Language Pathology. I'm not very familiar with research funding, grants and personal investments in research, but is there any ethical ramifications involved with investing in your own research?
