[Dysphagia] What is CPM?

CPM is a type of charting system and health care
culture that the hospital has to buy the right to use.
It requires all providers to document on the same
pages and under specific categories. So, instead of
each profession doing individual ax and tx notes with
background history, rational, etc. we all have to
document on the same "checklist". The goal is to
reduce repetition and to require a more collaborative
approach.

It is really extremely complicated, and even though I
just completed a 2 day workshop on it, I still don't
really understand. I would really like to hear from
other SLPs in acute care to hear if it has worked for
them, because I want to believe in it, but I have
serious concerns.

I copied and pasted this blurb from the CPM website:

"""""""What are resources for implementing the CPM
documentation system?

The CPM Resource Center provides services and tools
for initiating and sustaining the CPM documentation
system. Services and tools are based on the premise
that documentation is a tool for strengthening
professional integrated practice, and the CPM
documentation system is identified as one key leverage
element in a systems-thinking approach to creating
integrated, professional practice and healthy work
cultures. CPM Resource Center professionals work with
key individuals in customizing implementation.
Resources include assessments; workshops; conferences;
consortium networking opportunities; phone and on-line
consultation, and education materials (e.g. videos,
handouts, books, instruction manuals). """""""""
