[Dysphagia] Digital recording

Recording your swallow studies digitally requires an incredible amount of
memory which can significantly slow down or even crash your system... so I
have been told. We have just moved to a digital system in Dec '04 and at
the conclusion of my Canada-wide research decided to by-pass our PACS system
and just record our studies on regular VHS tape (if I had more money I would
have preferred to record digitally to a CD to allow for desk top viewing
however it is nice to be able to wheel my video cart to the patients room or
nursing lounge for teaching purposes).

To find out what equipment I needed I worked with the Digital Imaging rep
that provided the original digital imaging equipment. I can provide the
equipment that they recommended if you require.

The next hurdle I had to clear was achieving audio. Because we choose to go
the VHS route, I had to find a sound mixer that would let me record sound
from a mic to tape. I was originally told all I needed was a $35 VHS jack
but I ended up having to purchase a $200 sound mixing unit.

Hope this sheds some light!

We are looking at changing from the video method of recording our
videofluoroscopies to digital recordings with sound. We also need a
system that will work with the hospital computer system as we are
already filmless. Any successful systems out there? I remember this
being discussed a long time ago, but was hoping for some up to date
information as the technology keeps changing.
