Jai makes some valid points.  Life "in the real world" is just not as cut 
and dried and absolutely "factual " (nor article laden) as some would have 
us believe.  I applaud her response.

When I said " I would not agree less with you" I was just polite and trying 
to highlight the point it is not only with Asp Pneu but every diagnosis in 
medicine we can have debate ... name anyone diagnosis one is confident and I 
will give differential diagnosis that needs to be made...I was not trying to 
be nasty but trying to put things in perspective.

In this forum I think we should avoid...this type of free mentorship 
advocated....I think we should have mutual respect for our work.....nature 
of work .....and stress we work under, limited resources we work with ....we 
should  value each others opinion as long as there is evidence to support 
and not quackery...and it is democracy ..everyone is entitled for a free 
opinion...and exchange ideas....and reader have choice to ..not to read it 
...or read and respond ..or just read and reflect.......if someone is keen 
to have only scientific discussion ..that is giving others opinion and with 
a reference, they can start another group...as far as this forum goes ...

My impression is it is primarily for Speech Pathologists and they are the 
centre of the world here and other are auxiliary  .....SLP is still a very 
young profession as compared to Medicine and we are very hard on ourself  as 
compared to what medicine was at the same age.....I remember in 1998 when I 
was sharing a panel seat  at the 2nd Australasian Dysphagia Conference. 
Melbourne with Dr J Logemman ..I raised this issue with her and she agreed 
"yes we are" and she added, this will only make us have a strong base and 
measure our outcomes better.......we value others "specialists" opinion but 
make our own decisions .....and I don't like others forcing there ideas as 
the only idea in the world that will save the world from dehydration ..or 
...pneumonias.....we should value what happens in the real world.....

I did not ask for what I should read and not ...and what makes people think 
we don't read....I have done enough reading and still do lot of reading that 
is besides my job.....I am a Speech Pathologist, a senior clinician, a 
Manager, I work full time...and I have a life outside too...I do not deal 
with dysphagia only ...if give examples of Dyslexias, Dysphasias, 
Dysgraphias, Dyspraxias, Dysphonias etc. ...that I have been in the 
profession for 25 yrs now and alway in acute medical setting ..most of the 
people out side the SLP profession will go bongkers "crazy" what all we 
do.......I pretty well know how medical diagnosis is made by consultants 
.....You can read any medical book if you have with you and see the section 
on differential diagnosis...if you don't have let me know I will send you 
some interesting papers and discussions, and opinion based on clinical facts 
are scientific fact.. ..I don't think I should show-off my resources and 
knowledge by always quoting refs .. I don't have time ..when there is 
request I do dig up the ref in time....at this point I would request the 
list owner to circulate the terms of reference or aim of his listserve...
