Just a reminder about the Pediatric Dysphagia seminars I am teaching for
the remainder of 2005.
* NICU Intervention: Swallowing/Feeding Issues in the Nursery and
After Discharge

Includes the most current evidence-base, evaluation and treatment
approaches for sick term, preterm and chronically ill preterm infants.
Key medical issues and impact on feeding/swallowing. Swallowing
development, suck-swallow-breathe coordination, progression to feeding,
flow rate, nipples, breastfeeding, typical problems observed and
solutions, introduction to a new assessment tool for feeding/swallowing
in preterm infants, videos. Network and dialogue. Published author in
neonatal intervention with 20 years experience in a Level III NICU with
over 750 admissions per year.

Comprehensive seminar covering assessment/intervention from a
problem-solving perspective. Neonates through school-age. Current
approaches, wide variety of interventions. Normal development of the
swallow. Airway, GI, oral-sensory-motor, sensory-behavioral, feeding
aversions, tube fed and weaning to oral, tools of the trade (nipples,
bottles, spoons, cups), diet/texture, positioning/handling, CP,
medically-fragile infants. Videos. Problem-solving.

Key information for pediatric studies. Normal swallow physiology
(neonate through school aged), optimal procedures/protocol, typical
problems and pediatric compensations, strategies, modifications; videos
of normal and a wide variety of problems, including esophageal. Case
studies.
