[Dysphagia] RE: Dysphagia Diet

We have pureed and minced diets and can delete/add anything we feel is
(in)appropriate for individual patients. All liquids and soups are
pre-thickened in the kitchen to 3 consistencies; nectar, honey & pudding.
Honey is the default thickness if thickened liquids are requested by nursing
staff before the pt is seen by SLP. I would hesitate to call any diet at
our facility a "dysphagia diet" because I am afraid staff might assume this
is safe for any pt with dysphagia and naively order it instead of asking for
an SLP assessment.

Hi All,
Does anyone want to weigh in on what their facility/agency includes in a
'dysphagia diet'. Our dietary dept. is considering adding another category
(e.g, minced with no bread or 2 consistency foods) and titling it a
dysphagia diet.
What have others done and are you happy with the diet system?
Any and all responses would be appreciated.
Kim
