I don't do FEES, but I have been scoped twice recently by an experienced ENT for issues related to my tonsils and it HURT ALOT!!!! He used a plastic sheath and a lubricant but no anasthetic.

Jenny -
I have been doing FEES for about 6 years and have never had the need to use any type of anesthesia. However, we do have patients sign consent forms for the procedure itself since it is invasive. Hope this helps.

Do any of you use topical anesthesia (not a spray) when passing flexible scopes for FEES? Do you have the patients sign consent forms? Do you have any guidelines, protocols, or safety factors for use of anesthesia?
Thanks,
Jenny
