[Dysphagia] weekend coverage in acute care

While we're on this topic, I'll share my JCAHO story from 2 weeks ago.
We had a JCAHO visit, and the first activity of the first meeting,
everyone present introduced themselves. I was one of 3-4 clinicians
there in a room full of administrators, and when I said I was from
speech pathology she said, "Do you have 24 hour speech here?" (This is
literally the first question she asked on the visit, within 2 minutes of
her arrival) I said, "24 hours a day?" She said, "Yes." I said, "No, not
24 hours a day" and she sternly responded "We need to talk." Yikes! I
sat there stunned, wondering how many facilities have 24 hour a day
speech coverage? 2 am swallow studies!? The administrators all went
nuts, scribbling notes to me about 24 hour a day speech coverage, etc,
etc. Well, as it turned out, when we "talked" later, she corrected
herself; what she MEANT was coverage every day, not 24 hours a day. She
had a good laugh at her mistake which I was eventually able to laugh at
too, after my near heart attack. Luckily we don't have to start sleeping
in call rooms for now!

We do relative to patient satisfaction, continuity of care, length of
stay, equality of treatment, etc.

<< The point made was that patients should receive equal service in your
facility no matter what day they enter the doors.

Does everyone provide videofluoroscopy on the weekend?
