What wonderful ideas from everyone. Thank you. Please continue to send ideas
as you think of them.

As I was strolling through the grocery store today, my eye was drawn to that
imitation crab stuff. It is soft and mild flavored and not try. They let me
taste test" a piece of it. He liked it AND it went down very easily!
Yippee!!!! Protein!!!!

How about tapioca pudding or rice pudding? There is a brand called Kozy
Shack in the dairy section of your grocery store that makes both of
these products. It's a very good consistency and yummy.

Cream of wheat (not very exciting to a four year old but you could add
chocolate to it!), soft boiled egg, cottage cheese with jelly in it or
cinnamon and sugar. How about teething buscuits...some of them are
quite good and turn to mush. Ricotta cheese mixed with applesauce is
quite good (really!).

There are certain brands of soy hotdogs that are very good and have a
texture that gets mushy. Smart Dogs are the best that I've found and
they are found in the produce section.

I also have had lots of luck with a modified pumpkin pie:

1 can of pumpkin (not the pie mix, just the plain pumpkin)
3 eggs
1/2 cup flour
1/2 cup sugar
cinnamon and nutmeg.

Mix it all up, pour in a pie pan and bake for 30 minutes. You could use
less flour, too. The inside is "looser" than mashed potatoes.

I'll keep thinking and let you know more ideas.
Good luck...my heart goes out to you and you little guy who really wants
to eat!

  Hello Everyone,

I am a the mother of a 4 year old little boy. He is 14 days post op from
a
Nissen Fundoplication. He is a silent aspirator and is not safe to
swallow
anything thinner than very thick puree. It does appear that the fundo
has
successfully stopped the aspiration from below. He was released from the
hospital strictly gtube fed and allowed a soft mechanical diet as
tolerated.
Anything "soft mechanical" I have tried (mashed potatoes, mashed banana,
mac
and cheese, scrambled eggs, bread...all in very very small bits and
bites)
doesn't seem to work. It gets stuck at the wrap.

I can tell he is making progress because he can successfully chew and
swallow a Cheerio or Cheetoh Puff past the wrap. I know, not technically

soft mechanical", but they do dissolve to almost nothing. In addition to
the
Pediasure, he has been having custard style yogurt with small amounts of
cheerios. He has also successfully tolerated homemade thick applesauce.

What are some things I can continue to feed this kiddo? I am out of
ideas.
He begs to eat and I certainly don't want to contribute to an aversion.
I
have to limit his yogurt intake because he gets a rash. What are some
things
that are thick enough, but go down easy without the aid of liquids? He
will
swallow hard when prompted, but probably forgets on his own.

We tried scrambled eggs once more this morning and bite #2 didn't go
down.

Shelley
