I would like to recommend something for a gentleman I recently assessed in long-term care who is in need of some oral moisturizing (tongue is dry and coated). He is able to take liquids PO but is early PD with reduced BOT strength/ROM.
I have heard from several patients and physicians that swishing and spitting the newer bulk laxative helps a great deal. I'm blanking on the name but it's the one that's clear and is advertised as a substitute for Metamucil. Anyone know the name? The principle would be that it adheres to the oral mucosa and retains water. Seems logical. Used several times a day, patients with Sjogren report major relief.
