Breif case history: 2 1/2 year old, tube feeding since birth, multiple =
medical problems at birth, but now healthy and developing normally. She =
tries most foods presented and tries to feed herself, but pushes the =
food out of her mouth with her tongue before she swallows. She will =
chew solid foods (dry cereal, french fries, chips, beef jerky, etc.) but =
once the bolus is masticated, she spits it out then swallows. =
Occasionally, she will swallow a small sip of liquid from a sippy cup. =
She does handle her saliva. Any treatment ideas? (Have tried ice cream, =
jello, nectars, but not successful in initiating a swallow until after =
the bolus is expectorated). Thanks!
