[DYSPHAGIA] Liquid Viscosities in VFSS

The hand held viscometers were out, then production changed availability due to some change on the meters... I am assuming they are back out?
Eyeballing is what I have run into most but using the prethickened juices with powder added as it seems to be "lighter" than adding paste or liquid. In the past, I have developed recipes for consistency and know someone posted one here recently, ie add so many T of powder barium to nectar etc. It really doesn't take much powder to make substances radio opaque and some go way too far. I looked at the premixed stuff a while back and found it to be way too cost prohibitive. Good luck and if anyone out there has the info on the viscometer, please share as I left it at my last place?

The topic of liquid viscosity measurement has come up many, many times over the past couple of years at our hospitals. I've
thought about waiting until a hand-held viscometer is on the market (or are they out now?) because with this, we'd be able
to measure any liquid. Others have brought up using the pre measured drink boxes mixed with Barium but my thought is that
even they are not always consistent and in addition, the barium would also change the viscosity so it still would not be
stable. Someone also mentioned pre-thickened barium. Does any one use this? Is it costly? Where do you get it?

How are others measuring thickness? I am currently using an unscientific "eyeball" method as I've found nothing I trust
more... Ideas?

Thanks, Jo Ellen
