John,

With my patient, due to the extent of her resection, her copious secretions
and her hesitation to up her oral intake, she didn't have a repeat MBS for a
YEAR after the first. So, that was a long time. For your patient, it could
certainly be sooner if he's well motivated and you notice a difference in
his range of movement. I guess you have to decide what your markers are in
terms of where he is now and where you'd like to see change. Is he taking
anything by mouth now, sorry I forget.

Hopefully someone with more head and neck patients on their caseload can
give you a better timeline than I.

Kim

Regarding the patient with Lingual CA - how long should one perform oral
motor exercises before having a repeat MBS? Are we talking 4-6 weeks or
longer. This is man is so motivated to begin PO intake it just breaks my
heart!

John
