[DYSPHAGIA] thickeners and dehydration...help!

We have recently been seen by some nutrition reps re: thickeners.  Since
seeing them we have been trying to find information regarding thickeners
& dehydration in the literature which seems argumentative and difficult
to find.  Our main query is which thickener base is better from a
hydration point of view and why....it appears maize starch thickeners
are preferred over gum thickeners as they are digested earlier...
Does anyone know a good website/journal articles/texts that discusses
this topic.  Also, what thickeners are more popular in your area and why
(eg. cost vs taste vs ease of prep etc)  I am writing from Australia and
am interested in products used os...  Any info/responses would be much
appreciated as thickeners appear to be an ongoing saga for many and
dehydration queries appear to be on the rise..
