>>Tell them it's easy $$$ for them.<<
Actually, the radiologists at the hospital I am at have said that their
reimbursement from a MBS is about $20 (I'm not sure if they're exaggerating
or not) and that it is not worth their time to be present at every MBS.
Therefore, I feed the patient and the tech runs the flouro. The
radiologists have instructed me to call them if there is any abnormal study
(which means aspiration or other finding such as a Zenker's) They will then
come in and watch a few swallows of the study. Other than that, they review
the tape with my notes after the study and generate their report. We just
started doing this a few weeks ago. Prior to that, the tech would feed the
patient, the radiologist run the flouro and I would direct/observe the
study. The benefit of not having the radiologist present now is that I am
able to take my time and do a thorough study with as many
trials/compensatory strategies as needed. Most of the time the radiologists
are rushing things along. On the other hand, with the radiologists not
present, I do not have the experience and knowledge of the radiologist right
there. I appreciate everyone's input on this issue.
