In the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, there is no need to have a radiologist
present. (Logemann doesn't use one either, but has one available if she
needs to consult.) The Commonwealth does require a radiologist or a x-ray
tech to run the equipment.
In our facility, there are rare times that we can't coordinate our
schedules. The procedure is always videotaped, so we can review it at a
later time that day. The problem with this is you have to really train your
docs on the compensatory strategies...and even with that, they sometimes
forget to get the patient to execute them while taping!

Does anyone know for certain whether it is absolutely necessary for a
radiologist to be present at an MBS? Would it be legal/ethical for the study
to be "read" at a later time like some other radiologic procedures? Perhaps
like many of you, staffing issues with the radiologists limit scheduling of
MBS(s). Thank you for your replies.
