[DYSPHAGIA] Bowel obstruction
It depends on what they're using as a thickener. If
it's a substance that holds the water rather than
releases it, then certainly dehydration and
constipation can result. In nursing homes, the
obstruction issue is more often related to extra bran
in the diet withour extra water being ingested - hence
a nice bran plug in the bowel.
I've had the same experience with adults with DD. I
think it may be a combination of wrong thickener and
not enough water.
