[DYSPHAGIA] Prevacid vs. Prilosec
KInd of more on the same subject- actually rather than new meds, I'd
consider going back to old meds if you must. I'm assuming Pepcid
(famotidine) and Zantac (ranitidine) have already been tried and either
failed or not tolerated? Carafate (sucralfate) would be a good
consideration in a more severe situation, and old fashioned antacids or
even Pepto can help at least in milder cases. Ulcers used to get healed
routinely on liquid Maalox (worked on mine...I guess I am really dating
myself, even cimetidine was a little new and I was afraid of it at the
time!) Also, has there been a test for H. pylori and antibiotic Rx?
I have read an article indicating that there can be nighttime breakthrough
on AM Prilosec or PRevacid (any of the proton pump inhibitors- they may be
irreversible to the pumps they inhibit, but new ones can be created by the
body. Adding nighttime rantidine actualy makes sense when this happens,
or a second dose of the proton pump inhibitor around dinner time.
