are gastric antisecretory agents commonly referred to
as acid- or proton-pump inhibitors.  They aim to
reduce the damage to the esophagus by gastric acid
when GER occurs.  The main difference seems to be in
relative incidence of side effects, omeprazole having
more negative GI effects. Omeprazole can prolong the
elimination of diazepam, warfarin  and  phenytoin. The
possibility exists that omeprazole-induced increases
in gastric pH may affect the bioavailability of drugs
such as ketoconazole, ampicillin or iron salts (where
gastric acidity is important in oral absorption).
Basically, they do the same thing but in older folk
omeprazole seems to produce more bloating, diarrhea,
changes in taste etc.
