[DYSPHAGIA] Brainstem Stroke

  • Subject: [DYSPHAGIA] Brainstem Stroke

I am sending this for a colleague:

Her patient sustained a brainstem stroke about a year ago. He is still
unable to swallow his saliva---spits it out. He was able to swallow
about 1/4 tablespoon of applesauce recently. He is highly motivated to
improve the swallow. (Sorry, I don't have specifics of MBS results).
Treatment techniques tried include thermal stim, thermal gustatory stim,
Shaker exercises and Mendolsohn manoeuvre. Unsuccessful. Any
suggestions would be appreciated.

Carol
