[DYSPHAGIA] glucose oxidase test strips & aspiration

Hi !
I am currently trying to brush up on assessment and treatment of vent/trach
patients .
In reading, I came across the use of glucose oxidase test strips to detect
aspiration ( it measures the amount of glucose in tracheal secretions). This
is stated to be a more sensitive way in detecting aspiration than looking
for the evidence of blue dye in tracheal secretions after suctioning. My
questions are:
Can anyone explain to me exactly what the glucose value has to do with
aspiration? Also, Do any of you more experienced clinicians use this method
in your assessment? Any extra info would be greatly appreciated!
